In Saratoga [Sat, 6-28-03], Dave was def having a prob w his personal sound rig &/or the lines to/from the house monitor...you could see thru binocs that he was disenchanted [rolling his eyes at Chick & Gambale], but to those w/out binocs I'd say it wouldntve been noticeable... it appeared that he wasn't wearing his in-ears as a result of the prob during the 1st tune[s] [City Gate/Rumble - & we ALL KNOW he ALWAYS wears those in-ears], so it looked like he was listening to whatever they could feed him, which was i'm sure mediocre at best [until they solved the prob halfway thru the next tune, Trance Dance]... during Rumble [the set opener, just aft City Gate], a house tech walked over to DW's L shoulder...Dave turned halfway around, talking to the guy while keeping the groove going on R hand ride, kick, & hat; he even reached around w his L to tweek something & point something out to the guy, w/out even flinching, nor so much as even a slight wavering in the pulse... then he quickly brought the L back around & popped off 2 or 3 hits/accents on the snare, a'la bop style]... DISGUSTING, considering he was "craning" his neck... talking, tweeking, craning, reaching, AND chewing Bazooka bub gum - he then took a jog around the kit & the other players, never loosing the groove ;=) [in the old days, VC would've tripped on a mic cable ;=p]... obviously DW overrode his frustration, to deliver yet another consistently beachin' perf... Chick just grinned in amazement at his pulling it off, but i suppose that's just a normal experience 4 the CCEB ["all in a days work"]... his L hand trad. grip & ghost noting of the snare is looking more incredible & intense than ever these days [i think he's caught up w Vinnie! [img]wink.gif[/img] [img]tongue.gif[/img] [img]biggrin.gif[/img] - just kidn, Louie [img]wink.gif[/img] ]...

AFA the cym-switch, i only noticed 1 time: between #2.Trance Dance & #3.Got A Match [but then they only did 3 tunes, CG/Rumb being the 1st]... but the show roberto saw was much longer, since it was strictly the CCEB [prob the same good-n-long set list as when they were here last Oct, '02 :=D ]... seems Dave likes the addition of a lighter jazz ride cym these days for certain accompaniment sections of 'Match or other swing-bop sections [less "ping/ting"]... but i agree w Rob - given the enormity of D's kit, it seems like he just might could've fit that one particular cym in there somewhere w all the rest [but then again, for the same reason, maybe not! ;=) ]... & he DOES love those little splashes, & uses them frequently in very hip little phrases here & there...

I just think Dave expects as much consistency from the house sound crew as he does from himself ;=)... as PP said, he is, indeed, all business when it comes to recording & live performance... these days it does seem that VC is much more the "little more loose" type of guy; as it was said [by blake?], these days he just "oozes da' lub'"; but DW has always been congenial w me also [whenever i've had one of the few chances to rap w him!]....

Hey PocketPlayer, remember there are some drumming engineers on HOD. I think we have been insulted. [img]wink.gif[/img] Yes, we "feel" and have passion. After all, we play music or at least try to. Regarding the smiling issue, some people just don't show their emotions but they still have them.
